Italian Aerospace meets Dutch

The Italian Aerospace industry is the seventh largest producer in the world (with a turnover of 12 billion euros) and the fourth in Europe. This sector is mainly in Piedmont, Lombardy, Lazio, Campania and Apulia, regions of great strategic importance. In the sector there are around 48,000 people working in 400 SMEs. The most important multinational active in Italy is Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica) which, with seven divisions, has 51% of the Italian aerospace industry in its hands. Important subsectors in which Italy holds a strong position are: equipment and systems for aircraft and helicopters, aviation electronics, radar systems, satellite services, sensors, Earth observation systems, helicopter construction, innovative materials, parts for launch systems, environmental monitoring systems and weather forecasts.

Italy is the 5th largest aviation market in Europe, measured by the number of passengers on different aircrafts. Italy has 44 certified airports for commercial transport. This includes scheduled flights, charters and air taxis. In addition, there are 11 purely military airports and 11 military airports. The Italian airport system has a share of 3.6% in GNP. In line with the internationally expected growth developments, the Italian National Airport Plan (ratified on January 2, 2016) anticipates a growth of 300 million passengers by 2030.

Together with NAG and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, we organized a trade mission in the Aerospace and Airport Development sectors. From 10 to 13 December 2018 Dutch suppliers had the opportunity to meet Italian companies in order to make new contact and create future collaborations. The Dutch delegation had the opportunity to meet the most important Italian companies such as Leonardo, AvioAero, Milan Malpensa Airport, Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport and Bologna Airport. During the trade mission there were opportunities for company visits, B2B meetings and a networking dinner.
