Eni and NextChem: develop circular district technologies
One year after the first agreement, Eni and NextChem, Maire Tecnimont’s subsidiary for green chemistry, strengthen their partnership. The aim is to test the feasibility of a plant for the production of synthetic gases from plasmix and CSS, through a chemical recycling process.
The gas will then be refined into two independent flows: hydrogen, which could be destined for the Eni refinery to power fuel hydrodesolphory processes, and a carbon monoxide-rich gas that could be used in steel mills, both in blast furnace processes and in new Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) technologies. This would also make an important contribution to the decarbonisation of the steel industry.
NextChem is finalising aspects of the industrial application of the initiative. A joint working group between the two companies will check the technical, economic and flow feasibility of the plant. The involvement of the institutions of the territory will also be relevant.
