€ 80 million available for the Circular Economy

The government of the Netherlands has made an additional amount of € 80 million available for the circular economy in 2019 and 2020. This will give the business community and local authorities an opportunity to propose projects that fit in with the transition to an economy without waste and thereby make a contribution to the CO2 reduction statement.

Responsible State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven says (Infrastructure and Water Management): ‘An economy without waste and therefore smart use of raw materials is the missing link in the Paris climate agreement. We will not achieve the targets agreed in 2015 without this link. The world population continues to grow and more and more people will start using more resources. So we can either look for a second or even third planet, or we can work on a circular economy, starting in the Netherlands. In recent years, we have shown that the circular economy leads to opportunities for Dutch companies, and to considerable CO2 reduction. For example, the application of circular asphalt results in a saving of at least 20% CO2 compared to traditional asphalt”.
