Nuovo Pignone stepping into the future with the new mega turbine

The first engine to test of the LM9000 airborne gas turbine was completed at the Baker Hughes site in Massa, Italy.

It is a brand-new generation turbine, which was chosen by Novatek in December 2018 for the Arctic Lng 2 project. The test results confirm the LM9000 as the most powerful and efficient gas turbine in its class, with a yield of more than 44% and a power of 15% greater than its direct competitors. The turbine also significantly reduces Nox emissions (40% less than competing technologies), presenting itself as a solution with less environmental impact, ideal for combining efficiency and environmental impact reduction targets.

More than 80 experts from various locations around the world remotely connected with the Tuscan plant to follow the live test. The development of the turbine is part of the Galileo investment programme, supported by the Italian Ministry and the Tuscany Region, which has seen Baker Hughes commit from 2017 to the creation of a global center of excellence for the development of gas turbines and other innovative technologies.
